Policy Laboratories

Taking into account the need for processes guiding policy translation & lesson-drawing, experimentation for transferability in different EU Member States contexts and future policy pathways for key decision makers, MIN-GUIDE organises five targeted workshops (Policy Laboratories). The Laboratories aim at providing context specific transferability of policy and exploring future policy scenarios.

The laboratories represent spaces for knowledge exchange and co-production. In particular, they allow relevant stakeholders to exchange minerals policy experiences, particularly focussing on experiences in policy design and delivery; and to learn about latest scientific knowledge about innovation in minerals production, thus providing input for scientific evidence for policy-making.

The five laboratories will focus on different aspects across the minerals industry value-chain: mineral policy governance and framework; exploration extraction and cross-border exploitation; mineral and metallurgical processing; waste management and mine-closure; standardisation and systematisation of raw materials information.

The first Policy Laboratory focussing on innovative minerals policy governance took place on 4-5 October 2016 in Vienna, Austria.

The second Policy Laboratory focussing on innovative exploration and extraction took place on 20-22 March 2017 in Leoben, Austria.

The third Policy Laboratory focussing on innovations in mineral and metallurgical processing took place on 18-19 May 2017 in Luleå, Sweden.

The forth Policy Laboratory focussing on innovations and supporting policies for waste management and mine closure takes place on 21-22 September 2017 in Athens, Greece.
